Little James’ Basket Press, Saint Cosme. NV, as this is made via the Solera method, but ‘bottled 2021.’ I’m very fond of Louis Barruol’s wines, even if my experience so far has nearly all been of his négociant (ie non-Gigondas) wine. 60% Grenache and 40% Pinot Noir, this is his cheapest offering – it cost me around 8€ from a French merchant. It’s light, fragrant and very enjoyable. Great for picnics, summer gatherings and indeed, walking down the east coast of the Scottish highlands in January. But is the Saint CosmeCôtes-du-Rhône (100% Syrah) better value for money at 10-15% more? Possibly.
