JJ Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese 2017. A Christmas gift from a very generous friend a year ago. I hadn’t tasted a top-notch German Riesling in many years and had forgotten how good they are. Spectacular, in this case. A different style to the Alsatian Rieslings I’m more used to, even the more luscious ones. A fabulous balance of fruit, sweetness and acidity with an unexpected hint of effervescence. I don’t know if that’s normal or a bottle fault, but it didn’t detract. By all accounts this was still a youngster. My friend gave me a 2018 too – I’ll keep that for a while, I promise.
