Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2020. I spotted this in Waitrose, reduced from £8.50 to £6. Having been so impressed with the Boekenhoutskloof (only one spelling error this time) Syrah a few miles back I thought I’d try their bargain basement offering. The sort of thing that works with Guigal and Saint Cosme, but not here, sadly. It’s OK. For £6. I’m not really sure it’s OK for £8.50 though. It has that slightly grimace-inducing edge as it goes down that announces ‘corners have been cut to bring the price of this bottle down.’ Probably fine for a summer BBQ with friends, but not while wrapped up in a virtual rug by the side of the road somewhere in the Cairngorms.
