El Enemigo Chardonnay 2019. Bought from Bin End Wines, who specialise in surplus stock from restaurants and hotels. A friend and I bought up his entire remaining stock (only a dozen) between us when we were alerted. The owner delivered them to The Towers in person today and one was discovered in the virtual knapsack tonight. It cost £13, which appears to be a fair whack under the normal price. And excellent it is too, citrussy with a very slight salinity (apparently this is because the wine is kept under a layer of flor in the barrel, like sherry.) None of that butteriness that I can’t be doing with in Chardonnay. ‘At the end of the journey, we remember only one battle: the one we fought against ourselves, the original enemy. The one that defined us.’ That’s what it says on the label. Ask me at the end of this journey if I agree. I suspect I’ll tell you I remember only one bottle: the most recent one.
