Ernest Burn Sylvaner le Dauphin 2015. Another lusciously rich wine by Francis Burn, this time made from the workhorse grape of Alsace.
It comes from old vines that make up a tiny portion of the Domaine’s holding and is named after the beautiful iron dolphin on the sign outside the property. On my last tasting visit four years ago (see picture) I was going to pass over this wine and start higher up the list, until Simone Burn gently insisted that I at least gave it a chance. I’m glad I did. Tropical fruits, sweetness balanced with acidity. Burn has a reputation for making one of the best Sylvaners in the region. Not surprised. This bottle cost me 11€ at the time.
