Ernest Burn 2007 Muscat Vendages Tardives. I’ve loved Ernest Burn wines ever since first discovering them thirty years ago. Francis Burn is a winemaker of genius and manages to put an added richness in every bottle. This VT is wonderfully unctuous, but with a kick to remind you there is an acid grape at the bottom of it all, rather like a fine sweet Chenin from Vouvray. And look at the golden colour – it’s almost the same as Gaston’s copper tray. This was a perfect accompaniment to some Fourme au Sauternes, a Christmas treat from Olivier’s cheese shop in Calais. A good start to the journey – I hope every delve into the virtual Knapsack is as successful.
