Brunier Piedlong Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2015
Piedlong is another of the Brunier wines. This is a Châteauneuf, but an unusually simple one consisting of just two grape varieties – 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre. Rather like the Gramenon mentioned recently the overall feeling I got from it was one of lightness. I’m not using the word pejoratively, just comparatively. I imagined the Grenache trying to be a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky wine, but the darker Mourvèdre tempering the mood with a stern ‘Oi! Châteauneuf is meant to be serious, you know!’ I found it spicy, fresh and elegant and more enjoyable than Télégramme from the same stable.
