Day 28 – Dirdhu
Ernest Burn Sylvaner le Dauphin 2015. Another lusciously rich wine by Francis Burn, this time made from the workhorse grape of Alsace.
-
Day 26 – Lochindorb
Moulin de Gassac Guilhem 2018. A very pleasant cheapo from the makers of Daumas Gassac. The same muscularity-fun-attitude combo (I’m wondering if I should copyright that) as the H&B a few days ago.
-
Day 24 – Balmore
El Enemigo Chardonnay 2019. Bought from Bin End Wines, who specialise in surplus stock from restaurants and hotels. A friend and I bought up his entire remaining stock (only a dozen) between us when we were alerted.
-
Day 22 – Culloden
Hecht & Bannier Languedoc 2017. I first came across this when a French chum got some for me after a tasting by the Wine Group that he ran at work (a nuclear power station – what could possibly go wrong?)
-
Day 20 – Charlestown
Saint Cosme Côtes-du-Rhône 2018. I mentioned this earlier as a great value wine (this one cost me 9€ from a shop in Lille.)
-
Day 18 – Tore
Roc de Cambes 2013. At the other end of my wine-drinking experience from Coudoulet, I first drank Roc de Cambes (also a 2013) last year as part of my extended celebrations when I became an OAP.
-
Day 16 – Evanton
Coudoulet de Beaucastel 2016. I was drinking this stuff when it was called Cru de Coudoulet some 40 years ago. Of course, renaming it led to it being known more widely as ‘baby Beaucastel’, which was probably the intention.
-
Day 14 – Tain
Mader Gewürztraminer Grand Cru Rosacker 2016. As far as white wines go, Alsace is my first choice. I love the different flavours from Gewürz to Riesling and the different styles from austere to rich.
-
Day 12 – Ardshave
Little James’ Basket Press, Saint Cosme. NV, as this is made via the Solera method, but ‘bottled 2021.’ I’m very fond of Louis Barruol’s wines, even if my experience so far has nearly all been of his négociant (ie non-Gigondas) wine.

Day 10 – Brora
Vieille Julienne Trois Sources CdP 2011. I bought a bottle of this before my birthday when someone was offloading them in bond at £30.
