Day 51 – Lundin
Ernest Burn Riesling 2016
My third bottle of Burn since I started the virtual walk, following the Vendages Tardives and the Sylvaner.

Day 49 – Kilconquhar
2018 J-P Brun Beaujolais l’Ancien. This is the sweet spot in the JPB range for me. It has a bit more backbone than his entry-level Le Ronsay and is a little more approachable than his single appellation wines, which I haven’t quite got the hang of yet.

Day 47 – St Andrews
Domaine de Cabarrouy Ambre de Samonios 2015. I had never tried a Jurançon until a couple of years ago. I decided to buy a mixture from Domaine de Cabarrouy after reading positive reviews in the French wine press and because (shallow bastard that I am) I liked the label.

Day 45 – St Michaels
Triguedina Malbec du Clos Cahors 2018 – it seems to me that Malbecs on supermarket shelves are always several years younger than they should be, if the idea is to get the punters to buy a bottle to drink that night.
-
Day 43 – Invergowrie
Jeff Carrel Fitou la Tyre 2018. There’s a fair bit of Jeff Carrel hype among the bigger French online merchants. I fell for it about three years ago and bought a mixed dozen.
-
Day 41 – Dunsinane
Le Pigeoulet 2017. I love this wine, made by the Bruniers of Vieux Télégraphe fame. It’s 80% Grenache with little bits of the other usual Rhone suspects thrown in and has a juicy, fresh, fruity feel.

Day 39 – Rosemount
Bruno Sorg Pinot Gris Vieilles Vignes 2017. And back to Alsace again. Sorry. If Burn represents the richly flavoured wines of the region and Mader occupies the centre ground, then Sorg is at the steelier, purer end of the spectrum.

Day 34 – Newbigging
Domaine de la Rossignole Sancerre 2018. Bought at the Lille Wine fair at the end of 2019 for 11€. Good quality, concentrated, flinty Sancerre with tastes of gooseberry and a little bit of licorice.

Day 28 – Dirdhu
Ernest Burn Sylvaner le Dauphin 2015. Another lusciously rich wine by Francis Burn, this time made from the workhorse grape of Alsace.
-
Day 26 – Lochindorb
Moulin de Gassac Guilhem 2018. A very pleasant cheapo from the makers of Daumas Gassac. The same muscularity-fun-attitude combo (I’m wondering if I should copyright that) as the H&B a few days ago.
